As part of an official visit to Japan, DPM Lawrence Wong stopped by for a short gathering with fellow Singaporeans! This event came within a month of DPM Heng Swee Keat’s visit to Tokyo on 27th April 2023. The reception with our skilled selfie-taking minister was held at Imperial Hotel Tokyo on 24th May 2023.
Singaporeans from all walks of life living in Singapore had the chance to interact with DPM Wong during this event. During our conversations, we shared about our weird and wonderful experiences living in Japan, and reminisced about Singapore as well as some things which just couldn’t be replaced here. Like our favourite local foods. And Indomee. DPM Wong approached every conversation not just with a knowledgeable mind, but a dose of his classic, good humor as well. In DPM Wong's words, we all have a "shared heritage"; it was an important reminder that we come from the same place, and that Singaporeans will always have each other's backs no matter where we are in the world.
Soon came the part we were all waiting for… food! Singaporeans were treated to a spread of local food. The usual suspects like Chicken Rice reared its head, but there were some specials like Peking Duck (which, of course, there was a long queue for) as well as a killer sushi booth with a chef making them fresh on the spot.
Mothership was reporting at the event too! You can take a look at some highlights they captured at the links below:
We would like to thank DPM Lawrence Wong for finding the time to meet and chat with us Singaporean students here! We hope to see him in Japan again sometime in the distant future.
