The Smart Local x Scoot Event!

Back in the beginning of July, some of us lucky SSAJ members were able to participate in a collaborative dinner event hosted by The Smart Local and Scoot Airlines in Tokyo! Over 50 Singaporeans came to the event, from students to families, from all walks of life, to celebrate an early National Day together.

As you entered the event, you were greeted by an abundance of energy and familiarity, the event space was decked out with Singapore flags, and nostalgic snacks brought my favourite spicy tapioca chips from SG omgomgomg) and wide smiles. We were ushered to a photobooth upon arrival where we were able to pose with various cute SG-themed props, and then had a chance to mingle around with the other guests! Card games were placed on each table where guests can play TSL's variation of "We're Not Really Strangers" with one another, and I found myself quickly making a new friend through it! I also found myself snacking on all the nostalgic snacks on the table oops (again the tapioca chips).

We soon transitioned to dinner where we feasted on local classics such as chicken rice, chicken curry, laksa, curry puffs and pandan cake! Afterwards, we moved on to childhood games and during this period, the TSL crew were making rounds interviewing different Singaporeans (psst, current EXCO president Eveleyne and secretary Vanessa were featured). The event hosts even managed to secure sparklers where we were able to set them outside! My inner childhood was healed to say the least.

We ended the night with NDP Karaoke and desserts, and speeches made by our lovely TSL and Scoot hosts. They even gave us goodie bags packed to the brim with snacks and trinkets! I was very happy with the jar of kaya I received haha.

Overall, the event was truly one of a kind and I thought it was great how I could mingle with other Singaporeans living in Tokyo who weren't just students over delicious food in an energy-filled environment. Biggest thank you to TSL and Scoot for hosting the event and bringing a piece of home all the way to Japan!

Do give the TSL video a watch!
