This year marks the 40th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations. Japan is commemorating the anniversary with a series of events, one of which is the ASEAN Festival 2013 which is spearheaded by the ASEAN Japan Centre. The ASEAN Embassies have all been approached to participate in the Festival in the form of setting up a booth to promote their country. In addition, there will also be booths rented out to interested businesses (generally restaurants) to sell their food.
For Singapore’s representation, we are working with Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in terms of the logistics of setting the booth to promote Singapore, and bringing in artistes to stage performances. Food-wise, STB and IE Singapore have managed to secure the participation of some local businesses.
There is a website on the event. Please check it out here at: www.aseanfes.jp
We hope to be able to get Singaporean students to volunteer for the ASEAN Festival in assisting to man the Singapore booth. The booth will be promoting Singapore as a tourist destination, something like an information centre. Volunteers (i.e. Singapore’s representatives) will be provided with briefing and simple training by STB prior to the event. In terms of incentives, the plan is provide an allowance to cover transportation/food and out-of-pocket expenses.
As the event will be held over two days 5-6 Oct, between 10am and 7pm on both days, we are considering having at least 2-3 volunteers manning the booths at any given time. As such, the ideal situation would be to acquire at least 8 students. STB and Embassy staff will also be present during the two days.
Please let us know if you require more information. We look forward to hearing from you.
