Hello everyone! Thank you for coming to our mid-autumn celebration over the weekend. . Thank you to our Vice President, Bernice, for flying the mooncakes over from Singapore, our President, Sarah, for preparing all the yummy treats from Costco and our Treasurer, Germaine, for hosting and organising the Kahoot quiz we had in the middle of the event! Also, congratulations to the winning team!! There was no tangible prize but you have won our respect (and love). There were many familiar faces, but we also spotted a handful of newbies in the crowd. Welcome to the SSAJ family! We hope you enjoyed your first event and to see you in the next one. (人◕ω◕)
On the 4th of August 2018, Saturday, the Singapore Student Association Japan (SSAJ) and Singapore Association in Japan (SAiJ), respectively the student and working bodies of Singaporeans living in Japan, came together to co-organize a special afternoon luncheon, Makan Majulah! Celebrating NDP 2018 Tokyo, in commemoration of Singapore’s 53rd National Day in 2018. With the kind partnership support of GIC Japan, Rakudo and OSU, Makan Majulah! saw a successful attendance of over 50 Singaporeans and friends. Participants of Makan Majulah! came from different walks of life, ranging from exchange students to working professionals living in Japan, bound by a common interest in Singapore. This afternoon of casual networking and making new friends was spent over enjoying delicious local Singapore cuisine at Rakudo, the latest Singaporean restaurant to open in the…
Happy Monday to all~ Thank you for attending the 2018~2019 EXCO's first event over the past weekend. We had a lot of fun so we sincerely hope you did too! With the generous sponsorship of JUGAS and Prima Taste, SSAJ hosted a Chinese New Year Hotpot event where we had laksa as our soup base! It was a delightful time of networking and sharing stories as we savoured the nostalgic taste of laksa and experienced the warmth of gathering around the dinner table during the festive season. There were even pineapple tarts and other CNY goodies! Everyone was also pleasantly surprised by the event venue, which was roomy with a well-equipped kitchen that will make you feel like a Masterchef (thank you Shu for finding the place). Can't wait for the next gathering with good food (as Singaporeans often are) and a big thank you to JUGAS and Prima Taste for making this event possible! …
On the 25th November, SSAJ held a Momiji-gari (Autumn leaves viewing) at a nice quaint spot in Hanno, Saitama. The place was inspired by popular fictional character, Moomin, and it sure did warm our hearts for the limited time we were there. From picnicking amongst the families and locals here with their really adorable dogs, to exploring the really intricate architecture inspired by the well-loved Moomin series, time sure passed in a blink of an eye. Thanks to those who came down! Here’s to the success of our next event!
A big thank you to DISCO for their informative seminar on job hunting in Japan! Our members were able to gain insights on the job hunting system in Japan that will no doubt aid them in their own job hunting process. For those who missed this session, be sure to keep a look out for any subsequent seminars!
Some members of the SSAJ participated in the 2017 ASEAN Cultural Festival, an annual event put up by the different ASEAN student organisations in Japan. This year we sold Kaya toasts to guests who visited, and put up a performance, which was a wonderful rendition of the NDP song ‘Home’. Getting to interact with students from the other ASEAN countries was also an added bonus!
Don't Merlion Party Part 4 was a good time spent catching up with fellow Singaporeans as we ate Okonomiyaki and Monjyayaki. Everyone had fun cooking up their own okonomiyaki/monjyayaki and some interesting designs were made! Thank you to everyone who attended and we look forward to next year's Don't Merlion Party!
